Hasanain Faisal Ghazi

hasanan picI was born in Baghdad, Iraq. My interest in nutrition started when I was doing my internship in the hospital, as I saw a lot of cases of malnutrition among children. Also nutrition was one of the important factors in my country due to the economic sanctions from 1991 till 2003, when hundreds of thousands of children in Iraq died because of malnutrition.

In 2008, when I entered the public health field, I chose nutrition because I believe it is a very important factor for child development and disease prevention; and in order to have a healthy life you need an adequate and healthy diet too.

My master study was about malnutrition among 3 to 5 years old children in Baghdad, and the factors related to this. In 2013, I finished my PhD in public health from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and I chose to continue my research about malnutrition, this time among primary school children and its relation to intelligence, also the effects of unstable living environment on child nutrition. Also i did a post-graduate diploma in public health nutrition from publich health foundation of india (PHFI) in 2012. I was awarded the United Nations University PhD Fellwoship for one year in 2012 which i did it in UNU-IIGH , United Nations University International Institute for Global Health in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Currently, I am a senior medical lecturer at department of communit health, National University of Malaysia (UKM) since October 2013.

My main interest area is child nutrition especially in disadvantaged countries, and in particular the impact of war and other armed conflicts on child health and nutrition, also childhood obesity in Malaysia.

I published many papers in peer reviewed journals and also participated in several international conferences.
